Leaving the Valley podcast features a father-daughter duo that digs deep into the OTHER hard talk you have with your family. Dr. Buser is an award-winning psychologist and expert in the field of suicide and its treatment. Kimi is the show’s creator. She unpacks the information by asking questions from an every-person’s point-of-view. Together they have a family chat about what YOU should know about suicide.

About Leaving the Valley

Thoughts of suicide, and mental health in general, are so deeply stigmatized that people suffer in silence. For some, they’d sooner risk death than disclose that things had reached a point where they could no longer cope. Suicide is the tenth leading cause of death in the US and the second leading cause of death for young people (ages 10-34.) There needs to be a way to talk about suicide in a manner that more people can access and understand. That’s where Leaving The Valley comes in. Imagine if you could ask an expert real, honest, and candid questions about suicide–and that expert just happened to be your dad.

What to do if you are suicidal?

If you believe only one thing, believe this- YOU ARE NOT ALONE.  Our show and this website are committed to just one thing:  Keeping you with us for another day.  You are more important than you realize.  Someone out there is hoping to see you again.

Don't Isolate Yourself

Reach out to someone, anyone. Come up with a list of people you could call. Include loved ones, friends, associates, medical professionals, school acquaintances, neighbors, etc. Choose connection.

It's Not Hopeless

No matter how bad things seem right now. You are not the first person to ever deal with this kind of situation. Someone else may have an idea that you haven’t considered. Give help a chance.
